Not Exactly Crushin' It . . .

It's Feb. 28 and I'm just now getting around to publishing a blog about my word of the month. Dr. Stephanie Affinito, the originator of this idea, sent me a Tweet on Feb. 1, and I claimed I was going to compose a blog clarifying why I'd selected the the word, crush. As you can see in the image below, I had grand ambitions to "crush" my goals. Clearly, my aspirational values were a bit to lofty

Although February did afford me some unexpected reading time thanks to a historic winter weather event in Texas, I didn't make much progress towards my TBW (To be Written List). I am much more motivated to get lost in a book than I am to pick up a pen and write. With that in mind, I'm choosing to give myself a break. I still want to celebrate the literacy goals I did accomplish across the last 28 days.

During the month of March, I'm joining a community of practice that will hopefully help me tackle my often neglected TBW (To Be Written) list. The 🔗14th Annual Slice of Life Challenge begins tomorrow on March 1, and I plan to participate. I'm hopeful some of my new Keller ISD colleagues might consider joining me, knowing full well that this is a seriously tough season of life to be adding anything to a teachers' plate. I've always found such hope, energy, and resilience from writing, and I sort of feel like I need to process all the chaos we've been experiencing since the world turned upside down.

Although I love the simplicity of the drawing a bookshelf, I've decided to abandon my Apple ✏️sketches. Seeing the covers of the actual books I hope to read keep me motivated, and with Spring Break in the near future, I'm hoping to get to do some serious binge reading done. In addition to devouring lots of picture books, I really want to push myself to write every single day this month. I recognize this is not a sustainable practice across the entire year, but I like the idea of doing something for 31 solid days.  We will see how it goes, and if I don't crush it, at least I tried!
