Day 5
Our West Texas winery tour proved to be quite educational. Pictured above you can see the grape- growers, the wine-makers, and the hard-working wives of dedicated farmers who keep the tasting room buzzing. Throughout our afternoon, Anthony allowed us to pepper him with dozens of questions, and he graciously answered everything from "How do you feel about the trade-wars with China?" to "Where do you get your inspiration for wine names like, West Texas Boyfriend?"
For hours, this brother-sister duo dazzled us with tales of transforming from cotton farmers to grape producers. By late afternoon, the wine-makers from The Hill Country showed up, and as we listened to these west coast transplants talk about how the industry has evolved, I was fascinated by the intricate intersectionality of agriculture, business, and marketing. As a Panhandle native, I never dreamed a small town like Brownfield, Texas could embrace such progressive ideas, and it gave me hope to know there is a new generation of farmers looking to reinvent themselves. Farming thousands of acres of land is back-breaking work, and it seemed as though this Saturday afternoon wine-drinking extravaganza was a lovely reprieve. I enjoyed every minute!
